domestic abuse and energy drinks

i forgot to mention a bunch of things in my last entry.

like, that i saw kaoru after orientation yesterday.

last time, in japan, kaoru was my host sister for a week. shes part of the english-speaking society at kobejogakuin (the high school/college ill be attending starting tomorrow) and consequently speaks english extremely well. shes also really, really nice.

at one point during our conversation she said something in japanese.

and i said, "what?"

and she said, in english, "has your japanese improved?"

uhh, i guess not.

i had lunch with my host mother and sister at spoon cafe. i ordered a bacon cheeseburger and potato chips and pink lemonade. i ended up buying a slice of chocolate cake to take home.

on the train, there was a man who completely reeked. this little girl from america had a giggling fit, and after awhile her mom scooped her up into her lap in a last-ditch effort to get her to shut up. it was pretty funny.

anyway, my host mother and sister and i eventually bailed out and took another train because the smell was so repungant.

i saw two great commercials yesterday. one started out with a close-up of this girls face. she looked totally pissed. then the camera zoomed out, and a balloon filled with helium was tied to a chunk of her hair. then "love me, love body, love salad" repeated several times. it was so fucking random. the second commercial featured david bowie, which is noteworthy in itself.

i got up late today, around 10:30 AM. i wanted to call my mom, and there was a huge ordeal surrounding my phone card that i dont feel like getting into right now. it took about an hour, but i finally got ahold of her. i had to call collect, though. we talked for a half hour or so.

i dropped a letter off at the post office. last night i tested out my new stationary and wrote di a fairly long letter, mostly about lullaby, which i highly recommend. its written by chuck palahniuk, the author of fight club.

i spent most of the day online, catching up with web comics and reading diaries and chatting with pat.

after dinner i watched a tv show about these really cute baby pandas living in captivity.

i have to be at school tomorrow by 10 AM. schedules will be handed out, an opening ceremony will take place, ill give a short speech to my homeroom class, everyone will have lunch, and then class pictures will be taken.

speaking of homeroom... in japan, students stay in their designated homerooms throughout the day and teachers switch classrooms after every class period instead of the students. ill let you know how that goes.

im really looking forward to seeing kawamura-sensei again. uki-uki!

one more thing: while i was writing this entry i saw another interesting commercial. a woman is in bed, surrounded by maids, being pampered. then suddenly her husband storms in and swats at the maids and tips the bed over, and his wife falls to the floor with a little yelp. the husband stomps into the kitchen and sucks an energy drink through a straw. then, "ITS YOUR POWER" in english.

im unsure as to whether domestic violence is being used to promote an energy drink or im just misinterpreting the commercial, though i dont know how those kind of images could be misinterpreted. well, whatever.

anyway, till next time.
