the calm before the storm
the majority of today was spent at moegis grandparents house.
beforehand my host family and i stopped at uni qlo (how would you even pronounce that?), where i picked out gym clothes.
moegis grandparents were really, really nice. moegis grandmother kept putting food on the table - cakes, cookies, ice cream, mochi, and japanese sweets. moegis grandfather recited shigin, a type of chinese poem/song. i loved it.
apparently it was the first time moegis grandmother had ever had a conversation with a gaijin (foreigner). she asked lots of questions about america that were hard for me to answer without making huge sweeping generalizations. for instance, "do americans eat a lot?" and, "what are american parents like?"
she couldnt get over how beautiful i was.
anyway, i had a great time. they sent us off with juice, strawberries, and cakes.
in unrelated news, THEY HAVE THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL HERE! in ENGLISH, with japanese subtitles. i ended up watching a tv show about scientific anomalies, which was really interesting.
class gets into full swing tomorrow. stay tuned.
